If your website has visitors from Germany, you may be required by German law to display an Impressum, a legal notice identifying who operates the website. Termly now supports displaying an Impressum link directly in your consent banner for German visitors.
What Is an Impressum?
An Impressum is a mandatory legal disclosure required under German law. It typically includes information about who owns and operates a website. By linking to your Impressum from your consent banner, you make it easy for German visitors to find this information right away.
Step 1: Go to Your Consent Banner Settings
- Under the EU region settings, look for the Advanced Options section.
- You'll see a field labeled Legal Notice URL.
- Paste the full URL to your Impressum page.
- Save your changes.
Step 3: Confirm It's Working
Once saved, visitors coming from Germany will automatically see an Impressum link in your consent banner. The link opens your Impressum page in a new tab.
Visitors from other countries will not see the link, it only appears for German visitors.
Things to Know
- The Impressum link will appear in both the initial consent banner and the preferences modal.
- If you leave the Impressum URL field empty, the link will not appear, even for German visitors.
- This setting is only available under the EU region. It will not appear if you have US or Global selected.
