This setting hides the consent banner popup in your US regions while the Preference Center and all your consent logic keep working. It carries real compliance responsibility, and it is not the right choice for most accounts.
Read this before you turn it on
Suppressing the banner shifts responsibility for meeting notice requirements from Termly to you. Termly's recommendation is to keep the banner visible. Only enable this if your own legal counsel has determined that the banner is not required in a specific US jurisdiction.
Where to find it
The setting is labeled Suppress the consent banner. Open Consent Management > Consent Banner > Consent Settings, select one of your US regions, and scroll to the bottom of Advanced options, just below Respect GPC signal.
It can only be selected when the banner is enabled for that region. If Enable consent banner? is unticked, the setting stays greyed out. Disabling the banner for that region, or choosing Reset to recommended settings, clears the suppression setting.
If your Termly account is managed through an integration partner, this setting may not be available to you.
What this setting does
When you enable it, visitors in that region no longer see the consent banner popup. Everything else continues to work as normal:
- The Preference Center stays reachable, so visitors can still open it to view and change their consent choices.
- Your consent logic keeps running normally behind the scenes.
In other words, it changes what the visitor sees, not how consent is processed.
What it does not change
Turning this on does not touch the rest of your consent configuration. It does not:
- Add any new default-consent logic. Your existing default behavior stays the same.
- Change how Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals are handled.
- Change your Google Advanced Consent Mode configuration.
- Change any of the three regional consent buckets Termly already supports.
Where you can use it
Suppression is available only in the three US regions:
- California
- States with consumer privacy laws
- All other states
It does not appear for the Europe, Global, Brazil, or Canada regions, and it does not apply to the EU or any other country. When you enable it for a bucket that covers more than one state, such as States with consumer privacy laws, it applies to that entire bucket rather than to an individual state.
Visitors are still counted
Hiding the banner does not change what you are billed for. A page load still counts toward your monthly quota, shown as CMP Visitors in your reporting, even when the banner never appears. Suppressing the banner does not lower your usage or your plan tier.
Who should use this
This setting is meant for a narrow case. It is appropriate only if your organization has already determined, with your own legal counsel, that a consent banner is not required in a specific US jurisdiction.
If you have not made that determination with qualified legal advice, this setting is not appropriate for your account, and the banner should stay visible.
The warning you will see
When you enable the setting, Termly shows a warning next to it. Please read it before you confirm. It covers the same points as this article:
- Visitors in the region never see the banner and can still reach the Preference Center.
- How consent behaves in that region depends on whether it is set to Opt-In or Opt-Out. The warning explains what to expect in each case.
- Suppressed page loads still count toward your monthly quota.
